VW Bus for Sale, Rare Factory Automatic, 1979 VW Double Cab
Price: ARCHIVESYear of construction 1979. Volkswagen T2 Double Cab for sale in Swansea, Wales, UK. As shown here is the late bay double cab model, it's a very rare variant of the model that comes with automatic transmission. Originally a Swedish bus and then was imported to the UK by the current owner, now it offered for sale and ready to ship anywhere you are.
It's an original survivor example never been touched by restoration and has been parked for a long time. It looks like a lot of potential as a project. Found this one listed on thesamba six months ago and still available when we posted it here.

I have owned, looked at and been interested in double cabs for quite some time and never have i seen or heard of another factory Automatic example. Ive asked around recently on FB groups and on Samba forums and it seems no others are known. Its been described as a "Unicorn" by a couple of forum users that seem to know their stuff..

I located this one in Sweden (original delivery code is Sweden North) this summer and have transported it to and correctly imported it here into the UK. All correct paperwork in hand (Swedish documentation and Customs NOVA papers).
Its a project that has survived untouched and has it seems been parked since some time in the 80's. Some paperwork came along with it in the glove box stating previous owners name. He had also written his name on the back of the drivers sun visor.
The truck needs some metal work mainly to sill / rocker area, rear arch lips floor edges etc (see extensive pics on link below) but has many really good areas. The main frame looks good, under windshield is really nice, gutters are perfect, load bed is good etc. Again, best way to get the full picture is by looking at the 100 + pics.
The interior is really awesome! Fully original. Even the piping on the side of the drivers seat is intact. Original headliner, door cards, seats and upholstery, rear seat and rubber mats including the Automatic only cab mat. Really nice glossy dashboard that's all complete. Its a time warp inside.
One key fits all locks and ignition inc engine lid.
77500 km's show on the odometer which is 48438 miles. The motor is a 2 litre injection which i have not tried to start as it will need recomissioning. It turns over nicely by hand and feels smooth. All parts are present. Correct double cab air intake ducting etc all there. The gearbox / trans is i believe the original automatic unit. and again untested as i have not tried to make it run.
Outside the body is straight with no major damage. For a commercial it seems its had fairly light use. The load bed is good and drop gates need a few minor repairs but overall very decent. The roof is good. Obviously there's the rust repair needed but its a great candidate to fix up.
Factory original features of this double cab are: Automatic transmission. 2 litre GE code injection motor Eberspacher BA6 heater. Padded dashboard. Headlight washer kit, electric pump & molded kick panel screenwash bottle. Reverse lights.
Swedish dealer fitted: Tow hitch.
This is a project that has been parked up under a roof in a yard for many years. It needs work yes but what a great driver this would be done and out on the road again. Id love it myself but have another and don't need another project just now.
I have decoded the M plate using VW M plate.com which confirms the spec and looking around it its apparent its an untouched original vehicle.
