VW Bus for Sale, 1987 VW Adventurewagen High Top Vanagon

Price: $31,500

Year of construction 1987. Volkswagen Adventure Camper bus for sale in San Luis Obispo, California. A few weeks ago we posted Adventure Camper based on the second-generation VW bus, and today we found the third-generation known as Vanagon.

Adventurewagen high-top camper model was made by American builder Adventure Campers Inc based on a 1987 Vanagon, 36 years old, still retains its original engine in great condition for its age, and has been cared for well by the owner, and never let down. Smogged pass and has been driven about 180,689 miles revealed the owner. All amenities work properly and have some modernized parts, which could be good for the next future.

VW 2.1L Waterboxer Engine

Unlike most Vanagon where the engine was swapped to Subaru engines, this Adventurewagen still retains its 2.1-liter Waterboxer engine, which is the standard engine of the Vanagon for the 1986 to 1992 model. Waterboxer or Wasserboxer is a four-cylinder horizontally opposed gas engine, mated with a 3-speed automatic transmission, and it runs and drives well with about 180,689 miles on it.

Adventurewagen Camper Interior

Walk-through, bucket front seats, and no partitions so easy to pass front to back or conversely, and you can stand free in the middle with a lot of additional storage on top or can be used as an extra bed. Fully stocked camper, fitted with a fridge/freezer, tables, sink, water tank, stoves, and propane heater and has some upgrades including a solar panel with a deep cycle battery and all work perfectly as the owner says.

Inspired or is it DNA, humans lead a nomadic life?
Inspired by the old culture of the gypsies, or indeed it was innate in coming from ancestors' DNA, thousands of years ago humans had led a nomadic life. We think it a DNA, 2 out of 10 people have an adventurous life, they don't like it settling in one place for a long time, and choose to be out everywhere, like rock stars in the era of the 80s when they did city tours, traveling around Americas using the van or bus that they have. That's why vans were so popular back then, and the Adventure Camper that current owners offer is no exception.

If you're interested, this Adventurewagen was offered for sale by the owner on Craigslist about 3 days ago and is still available when we posted it here. Not crazies as T1 in price, but at least it's more powerful and a lot of fun.

Details by owner
This 1987 Vanagon Adventurewagen 2.1l (lovingly nicknamed Smurf) has been an incredibly dependable vehicle that has taken me all around from deserts, coastal views, to mountaintops. It has never broken down and reliably gets me from point A to point B whether at sea level or 12,000 feet elevation. Registration is up to date and pink slip in hand. It maintains regular freeway speeds easily and can reasonably handle minor off-roading.

The details:

Engine: 2.1l Waterboxer

The van comes fully stocked with a fridge/freezer, tables, utensils, and pots and pans. Recent upgrades include making the van completely off-grid capable with a solar panel and a deep cycle battery. Bumper was upgraded and new side mirrors were also installed. Sink (water filter included), grey water tank, two burner stove, and propane heater all work perfectly. The van comfortably sleeps 4 people (2 on the bottom) and (2 on the top bunk) and seats 5 people when moving. There is a substantial amount of space for storage and a large lock box inside the van with combination lock to provide extra security for laptops, documents, etc.
