If you're the last Baby Boomers or the X generations must know the hippie or rock n roll culture and want to be part of them till today or just to keep it, you can’t go wrong with a second-generation Volkswagen Type 2. Found a 1970 example that is still in good shape despite being built more than 50 years ago, was posted about a month ago on craigslist and is still available today.
This German microbus has been very popular in the U.S. in the 70s era, especially in its second generation. Here, a lot of people rode the hippie van at that time, especially in California was finished in full of color with Peace symbols. The microbus or van was among the more popular vehicle in that era, and the VW microbus is in high demand even today, selling for a good chunk of money.
This 1970 transporter example is finished in blue and white on top, with grey and a black interior, and isn't a walk-through model, throw away the middle seat. The seller even threw in a freshly 2007cc Engine to jack up the drive experience for the potential buyers.

1970 Deluxe VW Bus Non walk-through model w/spare underneath front seat. 97,xxx miles Fresh 2007cc Engine (Less than 1,000 miles) 4 speed manual We are helping the current owner and our customer sell this van. We are currently restoring a '73 Westy for him, hence the sale. This van is a real cream puff! The previous owner purchased this bus sometime in the mid ’90’s. Using a ’72 Bus donor, he had the front and rear suspension installed to the ’70. Consequently, this ’70 has power disc brakes and the later, 5 lug wheels. He also had the van professionally resprayed in the early 2000s. All previous owner service history w/receipts comes with the van in a large folder.
This Bus needs nothing, and drives beautifully. The 2.0 engine gives plenty power for all types of traveling. The transmission shifts smoothly, the brakes and suspension work as new.

The interior is very nice, very clean, and very functional. The front bench seat has been converted to have a removable center back rest (see photo) in a unique way. The front upholstery and panels are in excellent condition. Clean headliner, clean mats, clean panels. Good rear vinyl upholstery. All seat belts present, with new front retractable belts installed.
The exterior is also beautiful. Given our background with restorations, we were able to bring the paint back to deep shine! Very, very solid body. The issues we see are very minor, and mostly on the lower left side of the Bus (see photos). Slight bubbling is present at the very bottom of the driver’s door. There area few pinholes on the left rocker panel that were treated by the previous owner (see photos) and are holding up well.
The best part of this Bus is how it drives!! This van runs and drives excellently, especially when considering it’s a 50 year old vehicle. The 2.0 engine gives incredibly smooth, effortless power. The transmission shifts very easily and has shorter throw with the new shifter. The later Bay Window brakes and suspension work very well. This van cruises easily on the freeway at 70mph, and is capable of much more. This Bus drives as well as any of our full 6-figure restorations, for 1/4 the price! We would call it Motorworks Restorations “Certified”. Come drive it. You won’t be disappointed!
